Meet The Dean of Students

My name is Sean O’Meara and I am the Dean of Student Development here at the Derby Middle School. To provide some background I was born and raised in Ansonia, Ct and graduated from Ansonia high School in 1992. I then went on to Southern Connecticut State University and received my Bachelor of Science degree in 1997. I entered the educational field in 1999 working as a paraprofessional and Physical Educator for at-risk youth with the Children’s Center. I then moved onto Ansonia Middle School in 2003 as a Physical Education teacher. I received my Masters of Science degree in 2010 from Walden University with a focus on Middle level Education. I then received my Sixth year degree from the University of Bridgeport with a focus on Educational leadership.

In 2013 I was promoted to Dean of Student Affairs at the Ansonia Middle School. My main focus while there was to build connections and relationships with students, parents, staff and various community members. I am a firm believer in building respect for all members of our learning community. I am currently looking forward to the expansion of the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support model (PBIS) at the Derby Middle School. I started at the Derby Middle School on May 18, 2015. I personally enjoy attending after-school activities and witnessing our students succeed outside the classroom.

I reside in Seymour with my wife and two daughters’ ages 9 and 6. We have a very busy and full life attending various events and activities with our children. In my spare time you could find me watching football, reading various books (comic books) or hanging out with my dog.

I am looking forward to working with everyone and please feel free to contact me at the Derby Middle School.
